Hearing Voices Seeing Change Follow Up Event --- This is a free workshop for Black, Minority and Ethnic (BME) community members, service users, carers, health and social care professionals. The event aims to explore the local need when it comes to understanding and engaging with local minority communities and Gypsy & Traveller communities. The event will be held on 19th March from 10am until 3pm in Romsey.

Hampshire South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) --- SCAS is setting up a focus group to look at issues in relation to the ambulance service from the perspective of race, ethnicity, faith and belief. They aim to identify priorities and issues for patients, by involving community groups. The first meeting is provisionally planned for 19th February.

Drug Prevention and Information Programme --- The European Commission has just announced a new call for proposals under the Drug Prevention and Information Programme. The aim of the programme is to support projects that significantly reduce the social harm and health damage caused by the use of, and trade in, illicit drugs. If you want to apply for a grant the deadline for applications is 8th April 2009.

ROSA Fund For women And Girls --- Rosa is the first UK-wide fund for projects working with women and girls it will be launching its first call for proposals at the end of February 2009. Rosa will award grants to projects in 4 key areas which cover economic justice, health & wellbeing, leadership and safety. A total of £25,000 will be available to projects that; work with at least two partners, who are engaged with the media and who address the question ‘How can you support women and girls to develop a positive body image?

UnLtd Social Entrepreneurs Charity Opens Applications --- UnLtd, the national charity that supports social entrepreneurs, has announced that the spring 2009 UnLtd Millennium Awards (Level 2) is open for applications. UnLtd's Millennium Awards provide practical and financial support to social entrepreneurs in the UK to develop their ideas and projects. Level 2 Awards provides grants of between £10,000 and £20,000 to support people whose ideas are already developed or pay for the living expenses of Award Winners to help them devote more time to their projects. The deadline for submitting an initial Expression of Interest form for level 2 Awards is 12 noon on the 6th March 2009. Scotland and Wales Level 2 Awards are on a different timetable, so please contact your regional office for more details.

LIFE+ Programme to Launch Next Call for Proposals (UK) --- The European Commission has announced that it will be launching a new call for proposals under the LIFE+ programme on the 15th May 2009. The LIFE + programme is the EU’s main fund for supporting environmental projects. It will address all four priority areas of the Sixth Environment Action Programme. These are climate change, nature and biodiversity, health and quality of life and natural resources and waste.
For more information click here: http://digbig.com/4ygrd Church Of England Community Funds --- Under the Church and Community Fund grants of up to £15,000 are available to community projects run by parish churches, deaneries, dioceses and other bodies connected to or working in partnership with the Church of England. Projects supported must promote, aid and further the work of the Church of England. Employing a youth worker . The next application deadline is the 22nd April 2009.
For more information click here: http://digbig.com/4ygre Third Sector Research Programme --- This programme funds cultural understanding, fulfilling potential and environmental research.Under this programme, community and voluntary groups are able to apply for grants of between £10,000 and £ 500,000 (and for exception projects up to £1 million) for up to five years to undertake research in the areas of health and social wellbeing. It is expected that the findings from funded research will ultimately lead to the development of better services for people in the UK. Deadline for applications is 29th May 2009.
For more information click here: http://digbig.com/4ygrf Impetus Trust Grants Scheme --- Charities that work with and want to improve the lives of disadvantaged people have the opportunity to apply for funding through the Impetus Trust. The Trust provides funding, capacity building and hands-on management support to small to medium-sized charities that are at a critical stage in their development. The investment package which Impetus offers is flexible but is most likely to be between £150,000- £300,000. Applications can be made at any time.

Transition Into The Workplace For Young Adults --- National Institute of Adult Continued Education (NIACE) is inviting anyone who works with young adults, and is working to support their transition into the workplace, to a session which aims to, reinforce the importance of speaking and listening skills and to demonstrate how they need to be adapted in the work place. The session aims to establish an overview of some of the issues relating to transition from education to work and an understanding of how the ‘Talk and Work’ and ‘Skills and Work’ materials can be used to support young people. NIACE Annual Mental Health Conference --- This event will take place on the 5th March in London. This conference aims to explore the key elements for implementing the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) National Mental Health Strategy. More than 20 presentation slots will create an opportunity to explore, through the stories of learners and staff, what best practice looks like now and how it might look in the future. As well as identifying steps that your organisation needs to take to implement the strategy.

Find Your Voice Event --- This event is being held in the Haven, Portsmouth on March 3rd 2009.The Third Sector National Learning Alliance aims to be a voice for Third Sector Providers and is working in Partnership with Community First for Portsmouth to host a half day seminar on the changes in the learning landscape and how Voluntary and Community organisations, and social enterprise, can have a say in how this affects them and their learners.

POLICY AND CONSULTATION --- Volunteering Organisation Await Government Jobseekers Scheme --- The Jobseekers Scheme was announced last week and aims to give 40,000 unemployed people access to volunteering opportunities so they can contribute to their communities. However Volunteer Organisations are still waiting for the Department for Work and Pensions to confirm plans and establish a volunteer brokerage for this jobseekers scheme.

BME Could Withdraw Support On The Equality Bill --- The proposed single equality bill could lose the support of black and minority ethnic voluntary groups unless they are consulted on the legislation.

More Environmental Policies In Sector --- According to a survey from Every Action Counts, 52% of chariities surveyed now have green policies. The proportion of voluntary sector organisations with an environmential policy has nearly doubled in the last 18 months.

Reward Your Favourite Lottery Funded project --- The National Lottery Awards are an annual search to find the UK's favourite Lottery-funded projects. Lottery players raise £25 million each week for Good Causes and the awards are a great way to raise awareness of your project and the difference it makes to the community - the winners will be announced on a special BBC1 show and the winner in each category will recieve £2,000 to spend on their project. The deadline for nominations is 13th March.

Sharp Rise In Volunteering Applications --- The volunteering organisation YouthNet has seen a sharp increase in volunteering activity which is considered to be due to the recession and changing attitudes. A volunteering charity recorded a 115 per cent increase in applications to volunteer last year, it revealed yesterday.

Euro Volunteering Year Will Be 2011 --- Director of lobbying campaign says date is confirmed The European Year of Volunteering will go ahead in 2011, according to organisations close to the initiative. A planned change in European Commission personnel this year had prompted fears that the event could be pushed back to 2013 (12 December, page 3).

Community Engagement Worker --- The job role will involve working in the North of the Horsham district with a range of voluntary organisations and individual members of the community to assess existing services for older people and plan new one. The position is 30 hours per week with over four days fixed term until 31st October 2009. The individual will need to have good interpersonal skills and a strong understanding of the issues faced by older people. The closing date for applications is the 27th February 2009.
