Economic Downturn Survey Next Round
---
It is vital that those who have already taken part in our economic downturn survey also complete this survey to enable us to accurately measure the progress of recession on the Sector. The data captured from this survey will be used to make key decisions aware of the impact of the recession on our Sector and consequently that the Sector’s income must not only be safeguarded but increased in order to meet rising demand for our services. This next round of analysis finished on the 31st March.

Skills – Third Sector Event 27th April Guildford

This event will be held on the 27th April in Mandolay Hotel, Guildford. Organisations Run By People With Disabilities Receive £1.1m

Phil Hope has announced more than £1million will be available to help disabled groups run their own organisations. Speaking at the User-Led Organisation Action and Learning Site Network conference in London, Phil Hope said: "Organisations run by people with disabilities for people with disabilities play a vital role in delivering high-quality, personalised services. These organisations can really help people to lead full and independent lives.’

South East Region Reducing Reoffending Plan Draft Consultation

A draft consultation is being undertaken by South East National Offender Management Service (NOMS). This consultation titled Regional Reducing Reoffending Plan (RRRP) will represent a framework underpinning and supporting the work of the National Offender Management Service (NOMS) Agency with key partners in order to reduce re-offending and tackle social exclusion in the South East. It is one of three component parts and is published in conjunction with an Equality Impact Assessment and the Regional Needs Analysis (2008).

The Single Equality Framework Event 28th April

The event titled Human Resources, Organisational Development and the Single Equality Framework will take place in the Academy Conference Centre, London. £1.6 Million For Women’s Crisis Charities
---
Extra funding of £1.6 million has been announced for voluntary organisations working with the victims of sexual abuse and rape, as the organisations were in danger of closing. This is a cross-departmental intiative of the Govrnment Equalities Office, the Department of Health and the Home Office.

Adventure Playground Funding

The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) has contracted Play England to manage a funding programme for refurbishment of adventure playgrounds run by the Voluntary/Community Sector in the South East. The programme will offer £1.5 million funding and the deadline for submitting applications is 5pm on the 13th April 2009.

£2 Million For New Young Mayors
---
£2 million is available in grants to encourage at least 20 new young mayors representing youngsters aged between 11 and 18 years old. The new young mayors will be able to influence decisions made by their local council. A budget will also be provided to spend on initiatives which will benefit young people in their area. Details on how councils can apply and more information about the fund will be announced soon.

First Light Movies

First Light Movies funds young people, throughout the UK, to make films reflecting the diversity of their lives. Organisations with experience in filmmaking with young people can apply for up to £30,000 to fund the production of between two and four short films. Applications need to be submitted by 5.30 pm on the 5th May 2009.

Alcohol Education and Research Council

Organisations such as community groups and charities are able to apply to the Alcohol Education and Research Council under its Small Grants Programme. Funding of up to £5,000 is available for projects that increase the capacity of individuals and organisations to deal with alcohol issues. The Alcohol Education and Research Council is very flexible in what is eligible for support and is looking for projects that are innovative and that make a difference. Applications can be made at any time.

As part of the Modernisation Fund component of the Government’s £42.5million action plan for the Third Sector, Futurebuilders England, in partnership with Capacitybuilders, will be delivering a new £16.5million programme of grants and loans to help Third Sector organisations become stronger and more resilient to the impact of the economic downturn.

Migrant Impact Fund
---
Colin Byrne Regional Director Government Office South East has confirmed that the South East have been allocated £3.269 million from the Governments Migrants Impact Fund. Funding is targeted at managing pressures on local public services relating to legal migration. All local service providers, regional and sub-regional bodies and Voluntary/Community Sector organisations are eligible to benefit from the Fund. The deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday May 1st. The fund is designed to help support communities in managing local pressures from migration.

Empowering Community Leaders

Cohesion Minister Sadiq Khan has announced the names and details of 32 projects across the country which will share in money from the Preventing Violent Extremism Community Leadership Fund (CLF). The £5.1m Community Leadership Fund aims to support Muslim communities to tackle violent extremism. The successful projects will help build community resilience by developing the leadership skills of women, young people and faith leaders, and encouraging active, positive involvement in public life, promoting moderate messages and shared values.

Charity Direct Mail Declines
---
The number of direct mail items sent by charities fell last year for the first time since Royal Mail began collecting statistics on the Sector. According to statistics the number of direct maillings has dropped by 0.7% last year to 409 million. David Burrows, head of fundraising at marketing firm TDA, said current levels of direct mail were not sustainable. "It is getting less cost-effective to do big donor recruitment campaigns," he said. "There comes a point when charities have to change their strategies if they aren't seeing a return on investment."

Opportunity At RAISE: Senior Policy Officer

Want to play a part in really changing the South East?

RAISE exists to champion the Third Sector’s unique contribution to making South East England socially, economically and environmentally sustainable. The Senior Policy Officer post (fixed term until 31 March 2011) is funded by Capacitybuilders to develop a strong and independent ‘voice’ of the Third Sector. This will involve ensuring the Sector is well supported on key regional strategic and policy structures, building partnerships with those working in and with marginalised communities and sectors, ensuring the Sector is embedded in the new regional arrangements, building relationships with and lobbying key sub-regional, regional and national stakeholders, researching and developing a tool to enable RAISE to begin to measure the social and economic impact of the Sector in the South East.

To succeed applicants will need to demonstrate a knowledge of working in policy development in social or economic policy areas, the ability to influence on a wide range of issues, knowledge of relevant policies affecting the Third Sector, proven project management skills and ideally to have worked as a Policy Officer within the Sector.

Community First New Forest Support Officer

This post offers an exciting opportunity to be involved in modernising the support provided to the Voluntary/Community Sector across Hampshire Infrastructure Modernisation Programme. The role is 30 hours per week with a fixed term until 31st March 2011, with a pro rata salary of £16,990 - £18,936.

You will need to have an awareness and understanding of the Voluntary/Community Sector administrative support experience and excellent interpersonal skills.

The job will involve supporting the co-ordination and delivery of the aims of the IMP. You will provide administrative support to the programme areas and the IMP Board. You will also support the development of marketing and communications.
