Skills – Third Sector Event 27th April Guildford

Every LGBT Youth Matters Event 24th April

The Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgendered (LGBT) Consortium are putting together the first ‘Every LGBT Youth Matters Conference’ drawing on new and proposed legislative changes, the event will bring together Local Councils/Boroughs, Equalities Infrastructure Organisations, and Statutory Bodies to listen and respond to your needs. As well as keynote speakers there will also be a range of workshops looking at the generic and specific needs of LGBT younger people and how statutory and Voluntary/Community Organisations can work together to overcome these barriers and deliver better outcomes for all.

Gypsy and Traveller Sites Grant

The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), the national housing and regeneration agency for England has announced that it is is inviting applications for funding through the Gypsy and Traveller Sites Grant 2009 – 2011. The fund is open to Local Authorities, Arms Length Management Organisations and Registered Social Landlords who wish to provide social rented sites. The aim of the grant programme is to increase the number and quality of authorised sites throughout England consequently reducing the number of unauthorised encampments and providing the basis to tackle inequalities within service provision . A total of £32 million is available to support this bidding round and the closing date for bids is 30th June 2009.

£1.6 Million New Funding Available For Dealing With Sexual Abuse
---
The Government has announced that the 128 member organisations of the Survivors Trust , a national umbrella charity for specialist Third Sector rape, sexual violence and abuse services and the 38 member organisations of the Rape Crisis group will be able to apply for a share of £1.6 million of new funding which is being made available for 2009/10. Organisations that are members of Rape Crisis and The Survivors' Trust and provide front-line services to victims of rape and sexual abuse are eligible to apply.

NAVCA Support For Training And Networking Activities

National Association for Voluntary Community Action (NAVCA) is supporting training and networking activities to enable people to share learning through networking activity. Groups of local and sub-regional consortia are invited to make joint applications for grants of up to £2,000. The final date for applications is midday on the 9th April 2009.

New Grant Addressing Mental Health Issues For Prisoners

From July 2009, the Trusthouse Charitable Foundation will start a three year themed grant which will fund projects addressing mental health issues for prisoners and ex-offenders. Organisations working in this field, should contact the Foundation for an initial discussion. They will then send details of how to apply nearer the time. The Foundation usually makes £2 million of grants per year with the average grant around £6,000 though they can range from £1,000 to £30,000.

Clore Duffield Performing Arts Awards
---
Organisations such as registered charities, youth groups, limited companies and schools that wish to undertake activities that enable young people aged 0-18 to experience the performing arts are eligible to apply for funding under the Clore Duffield Performing Arts Awards. This is a £1 million programme that will operate between 2005 and 2010. Eligible organisations can apply for funding of between £1,000 and £10,000. The deadline for the final round of funding is 16th September 2009.

Concertina makes grants to charitable bodies which provide musical entertainment and related activities for the elderly. The charity is particular keen to support smaller organisations which might otherwise find it difficult to gain funding. The next closing date for applications is the 30th April 2009.

Impetus Trust Grants Scheme
---
Charities that work with and want to improve the lives of disadvantaged people have the opportunity to apply for funding through the Impetus Trust. The Trust provides funding, capacity building and hands-on management support to small and medium-sized charities that are at a critical stage in their development. The support which is usually available between three and five years aims to ensure that charities are in a position to increase their impact upon the lives of disadvantage people. The investment package which Impetus offers is flexible but is most likely to be between £150,000- £300,000. Applications can be made at any time.

Surviving The Credit Crunch Workshop

Held on the 8th April at Northwood House, Cowes this free event is commissioned by the IWRCC and designed to help Voluntary/Community Organisations in the Isle of White. DEFRA Third Sector Strategy

A £6m government fund for charities to run environmental projects was unveiled yesterday by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). The Greener Living Fund was announced at the launch of Defra's Third Sector strategy, which will include a new board of Third Sector leaders to advise ministers on ways the department can work with the Sector. The fund is designed to help Third Sector organisations to promote green ideals and reduce their carbon footprint.

The Office of the Third Sector (OTS) has appointed Liz Liston-Jones as deputy director for social enterprise and finance. Liz Liston-Jones will oversee social enterprise policy, promotion and Third Sector finance policy and programmes. She previously worked at the OTS as a policy officer with responsibility for social enterprise promotion.

Third Round Of Capital Investment Programme

Capacitybuilders has announced details of the successful organisations set to receive a share of funding available through Phase One of its Capital Investment Programme. The Capital Investment Programme has three phases of investment. The closing deadline to Phase One and Two has now passed. For phase 3 of the programme Capacitybuilders will invest in around five ‘flagship’ projects that will develop or significantly expand local third sector resource centres. Around £1.5m is available under this phase with capital grants between £200,000 and £500,000 including the opportunity to apply for some revenue funds to support project development and delivery. The deadline for expressions of interest under this phase is 31st March 2009.

Liam Byrne Predicts £500 Million Social Enterprise Boost

Liam Byrne predicts that more public services delivered by social enterprises will mean extra sector funds. Byrne told delegates at social enterprise conference Voice09 in Birmingham yesterday that he was aiming to create 25,000 jobs in the social enterprise sector by expanding its role in public service delivery.

New Research For Social Enterprise

New research will examine ways to increase the impact made by social enterprise on society. In partnership with other government agencies, the Office of the Third Sector (OTS) will examine the ways social enterprise can be used to improve living standards across the UK. The research will look at various issues, including: the use of community bonds and shares to help local communities take charge of the buildings that serve their needs; the social return of organisations working in healthcare; the growth of community development finance institutions; and the work of existing social enterprises that reduce the risk of criminals reoffending.

Grassroots Grants Programme Reaches 5000 Communities
---
The Cabinet Office have announced that 5000 grants of between £250 and £5000 have now been awarded to small volunteer-led community groups across the country, totalling £16 million. Within these groups at least 38% have never received a grant before.The grants can be used for multiple activities including the purchase of equipment, staff costs, cost of attending events and additional activities which expand the existing funded project.

Charities Invited Onto Green Advisory Panel

Third Sector organisations have been invited to apply for membership of a new government advisory body that will help tackle climate change. The body will include representatives from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the Department of Energy and Climate Change, the Cabinet Office and between 12 and 15 Third Sector leaders. It has been set up to help the Government and the voluntary sector share ideas for dealing with environmental problems.

Parenting Support Worker
---
Hertfordshire Practical Parenting Programme Ltd is a ‘not for profit’ social enterprise that offers practical parenting support to families in crisis with multi-agency working. A Parenting Support Worker is required to cover the Hertfordshire area.

The worker will need to be able to provide confidential, emotional and practical support to parents of teenagers through visits to the family either at their home or other suitable venues. The role will also involve attending professional meetings, report writing telephone calls to different agencies and supporting the Director of Hertfordshire Practical Parenting. Additional training and support for this role will be provided

South East Regional Empowerment Partnership Programme Manager

This role in contracted until March 2010 with funding for a second year based on satisfactory performance of the partnership, the salary will be £30,000 pro rata and the role will involve 21 hours per week. To apply for this role you will need a background in the voluntary sector or local government, you will need to have the skills to work closely with a diverse partnership, develop relationships with a range of agencies and undertake all project and financial management responsibilities. Applicants should be educated to degree level or equivalent with project management experience. The closing date for applications is April 8th. Interviews will be held on April 20th in Guildford.

This data be will used to influence key decision makers, enabling them to understand the effects of the recession and how the income of the Sector must not only be safeguarded but increased to meet the rising demand.

It is particularly important for those who have already completed the survey to do so again in order to monitor the progression of the recession. The deadline for this round of analysis is 31st March.
