NCVO Third Sector Foresight Training --- In partnership with NCVO Third Sector Foresight Partnership team RAISE will be holding two breakfast workshops for leaders of infrastructure organisations within the South East. The training titled 'making sense of your environment' will take place on the 7th July and 4th August from 8:30am till 10.30am in Guildford.

Baby Boomers Fear Age Discrimination --- Polling for by YouGov has indicated that more than half (53 percent) of ‘baby boomers’ think that they will get inferior treatment in healthcare and one in three (36 percent) think the benefits system will give them a worse deal as they get older.

Liberty Welcomes Amendment To Make Extradition Fairer --- Human rights group Liberty today welcomed an amendment laid by the Conservatives to the Policing and Crime Bill which would make the extradition process fairer.

New Specialist Disability Employment Programme Procurement Round --- The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) have recently launched a procurement round to replace current WORKSTEP and Work Preparation programmes with a new Specialist Disability Employment Programme (SDEP) supporting people with disabilities and health conditions to find sustainable employment. RBLI (Royal British Legion Industries) Employment Solutions has a regional contract for the existing programmes and is tendering in this forthcoming round of procurement.

FUNDING ---
Sustainable Investment In Communities Facilities Fund --- Sport England has announced that they are accepting applications through the Sustainable Investment in Communities Fund. The aim of the fund is to build new or refurbish existing sporting facilities. The fund is open to organisations, including applicants from sports clubs, Voluntary /Community Organisations, Local Authorities, and education establishments, such as Schools, Colleges and Universities. There will be two application rounds each year, the closing date for this round is the 30th June.

Big Lottery Fund Second Myplace Funding Round --- The Big Lottery Fund (BIG) has announced that it will be launching the second funding round under the 'myplace' programme in June 2009. The aim of myplace is to support projects that deliver facilities for young people. Of those areas that have already had a previous myplace award, only those with large youth populations will be eligible to put forward additional projects. BIG do not expect to fund more than 10 projects through Round 2. Further eligibility and assessment criteria, including a final list of eligible areas will be published in June.

Funding For Youth Led Relationship Education --- Terrence Higgins Trust Young Leaders have announced they are now inviting groups of young people aged 13-19 to apply for a grant to run projects around relationship education. Grants of up to £1,000 are available to groups of young people in England to come up with innovative and creative ideas about how to educate their friends. The closing date for applications is 26th June 2009.

Funding Global Justice Education Projects --- Groups and organisations in England and Wales that wish to promote global justice may be eligible to apply for funding through the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development Education Fund´s grants programme. Grants of up to £15,000 are available for UK based projects. The application deadline for large projects is the 30th November 2009. Applications to the small grants programme for funding of up to £3,000 can be made at any time.

Film Publications Fund --- The UK Film Council has announced that it is inviting applications from limited companies, charities and other incorporated organisations based in the UK through their Film Publications Fund. The fund supports print and online publications as a way to encourage debate and interest in the UK film industry. The deadline for applications is the 12th June 2009.

Action Earth Grants --- Local community groups that are working towards helping to protect England’s biodiversity have the opportunity to apply for funding of up to £50 through Action Earth Grants. The grants which are sponsored by Morrisons are available to local environmental projects that are practical, visual, have an immediate or lasting benefit to the environment and involve volunteers.

Northern Rock Announces £1.7 Million Grants Award --- The Northern Rock Foundation has awarded 22 grants worth £1.7million in its latest funding round.
For the full article please click here Clore Fellowship And Bursary --- The purpose of the Programme is to identify and develop aspiring leaders in the Voluntary/Community Sector who are working for the benefit of individuals and progressive social change in communities across the UK. Following an open competition for the award, between 15 and 20 Clore Fellows will be appointed each year, starting in January 2010. Together with the support committed by the Clore Duffield Foundation, each Fellowship will be sponsored by partner funders. So each Fellow will be fully funded, providing a bespoke, individualised and modular range of experiences aligned to his or her needs and aspirations.

Surrey Supported Employment Conference --- Employment support practitioners and managers from across the South East should attend this conference. Employment support for people with health conditions or those who experience social disadvantage is a developing area of practice. Professionals and volunteers engaged in this activity are positioned in a wide array of settings across the public, private and Voluntary/Community Sector. The key note speaker at this conference is Professor Dame Carol Black, author of ‘healthier well being.’ This conference will help practitioners to better understand quality service delivery and good practice.

Fostering Community Cohesion In Diverse Communities – 22nd June --- This event will give delegates a chance to hear from Ted Cantle, director at the Institute of Community Cohesion (ICoCo) on national thinking around community cohesion. The afternoon workshops will offer delegates the chance to hear from practitioner’s already achieving success in diverse communities, such as Fiona Berry, neighbourhood manager in Lewisham and Kirby Swales. Compact Awards --- Nominations are open today for the 2009 Compact Awards, the annual awards which demonstrate the Compact in action and recognise and celebrate excellent partnership working. 10 Years The Anti Social Behaviour Landscape --- 10 years have passed since anti-social behaviour orders (ASBOs) commenced under the Crime and Disorder Act. The act brought in parenting orders, the Youth Justice system and enshrined the concept of partnership working to prevent crime and disorder in law.

Crime Reduction Initiatives (CRI) a social care charity is working on behalf of NHS Brighton and Hove to reduce alcohol-related hospital admissions by developing a new Brief Interventions Service aimed at harmful and hazardous drinkers.
CRI are seeking to appoint a team of staff to deliver this important new initiative.
Alcohol Brief Interventions Service Manager (Ref MP678) £32,267 – £34,209 per annum, 37.5 hours per week
The post-holder will be charged with setting up and developing a high quality Brief Interventions Service, which meets the needs and expectations of a range of stakeholders in the City, including our commissioners, referral partners and service users. The role requires substantial experience of service management and development, along with a background in a relevant field and a commitment to excellence in service delivery and human resource management. Candidates need to demonstrate a good understanding of alcohol related harm and its impact on individuals, families and communities, and be able to thrive in a culture of high expectation and devolved responsibility.
Senior Alcohol Brief Interventions Workers x 2 (Ref MP679) £26,696 – £28,297 per annum • 37.5 hours per week
These posts, one of two senior workers, will support the Service Manager to develop referral pathways and partnership working and ensure that contract specifications are met and exceeded. The role requires experience of staff supervision, alongside competence in delivering interventions to substance misusers.
Alcohol Brief Interventions Workers x 6.5 (Ref MP680) £22,578 – £24,089 per annum (pro rata for part time) 37.5 hours per week, one part time post at 18.75 hours per week
CRI are seeking to build a diverse team, and particularly welcome applications from people with experience of substance misuse screening and assessment alongside the delivery of brief interventions to communities. You will also bring an understanding of the social, physical and psychological effects of alcohol misuse.

Alongside this new initiative, CRI are expanding the Substance Misuse service and Patched Carer Support Services in Brighton and Hove, and are seeking to appoint to the following posts:
PATCHED Project Worker (Ref MP681) £22,578 – £24,089 per annum pro rata, 30 hours per week
This post will oversee the recruitment, training, support and client allocation of volunteer counsellors delivering interventions to carers and family members of substance misusers. The role also includes the pilot of a couples counselling intervention, alongside carrying a small caseload of clients. You will bring experience of one to one, group work and partnership working.
PATCHED Carers Assessor (Ref MP682) £22,578 – £24,089 per annum pro rata • 15 hours per week
This post will conduct statutory assessments and reviews of the needs of the carers of substance misusers, on behalf of the local authority and NHS, alongside carrying a small caseload of clients. You will bring experience of delivering assessments, one to one and group work and partnership working.
Substance Misuse Service: Psychosocial Interventions Service Support Worker (Ref MP683) £22,578 – £24,089 per annum • 37.5 hours per week
This post will oversee the recruitment, training, support and client allocation of volunteer counsellors delivering interventions to clients seeking to address their drug problems. You will have a background in the substance misuse field alongside partnership working and supervisory experience.
Substance Misuse Service: Psychosocial Interventions Project Worker (Ref MP684) £22,578 – £24,089 per annum • 37.5 hours per week
This post will work in partnership with Sussex Partnership Foundation Trust colleagues in an integrated treatment service, conducting assessments and key-working substance misusing clients within an agreed care plan. You will have experience of assessing and delivering high quality interventions to substance misusers, alongside a commitment to ensuring team targets are met and exceeded.
Substance Misuse Service: Clinical Supervisors (Ref MP685A) 16 hour post, (Ref MP685B) 8 hour post £24,089 – £25,884 per annum pro rata The 8 hours per week Supervisor post will be responsible for providing clinical supervision to professional volunteer substance misuse counsellors at Ditchling Road. The 16 hours per week post will be responsible for clinical supervision input to the Alcohol Brief Interventions Service and other Psychosocial Interventions services across the Brighton & Hove treatment area. Both will have experience of working in the substance misuse field and a commitment to maximising effective treatment outcomes, alongside skills in a related therapeutic background such as CBT, MI or Solution Focused Therapy. A professional qualification in counselling to Diploma level and Clinical Supervision, along with supervisory experience are essential.
Administrators x 2 (Ref MP686) £16,704 – £18,749 per annum • 37.5 hours per week
You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, be a competent user of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook packages and will have experience of providing administrative support to a large team of staff.
