RAISE Board Member Nominations
---
RAISE is governed by a non-executive Board, elected at bi-annual elections. The Board is the primary decision making body and has a duty to ensure that RAISE is being managed in accordance with the Memorandum and Articles of Association of RAISE.

Becoming a RAISE board member will enable you to learn more about policy, how it effects your organisation and the wider Voluntary/Community Sector. It will also provide you with the opportunity to raise the profile of organisations you work with in your area, to meet key decision makers and to share learning experiences from across the South East with your peers.

To nominate for the Board, you must be a full member of RAISE and you must also be nominated by a full member organisation.

NCVO Third Sector Foresight Training – Places Still Available

In partnership with the NCVO Third Sector Foresight Partnership team RAISE will be holding two breakfast workshops for leaders of infrastructure organisations within the South East. These workshops are designed to identify better ways of responding to the changing world.

The specialist training 'making sense of your environment' for leaders of Voluntary/Community Organisations will take place in the morning on the 7th July and 4th August from 9:30am till 11.30am in Guildford.

Call For Comments - Setting The Pace Consultation

Setting the Pace is a consultation exercise being undertaken by the Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA). The consultation proposes a greater role for councils in owning and sharing among themselves the responsibility for their own improvement. RAISE is submitting a response to this document from the perspective of the Voluntary/Community Sector.

The VCS And Business Link Event - 14th July

We have had a good initial reaction to the Hidden Asset survey but the evidence base will be stronger if we can achieve a larger number of responses. We have extended the deadline to Friday 19th June to give more people chance to respond.

Preventing Violent Extremism Challenge And Innovation Fund
---
The Department for Communities and Local Government has announced that the Preventing Violent Extremism: Challenge and innovation fund is open for applications. This is a £3.2 million Fund available to local authorities to prevent violent extremism. The Fund is intended to support work that largely reflects activities under Objectives 1, 4 and 5 of the Government’s Prevent strategy. The fund is open to unitary, district and county councils in England.

The closing date for receipt of applications is 26th June 2009.

Hardship Fund Criteria Announced

This year's Budget saw the announcement of a £16.7million Hardship Fund for the Sector, building on the £42.5million Real Help for Communities action plan.

Funding Through Local Youth Banks

YouthBank is an innovative UK-wide grant making initiative run by young people for young people. Local Youth Banks provide small grants to young people for activities of benefit to the community and that also benefit the young people taking part.

Match Funding Scheme For Volunteering
---
V, the national charity for young persons volunteering has announced the next application deadlines for its match funding programme. V provides grants to charities that match up to 100% of any new private sector investment for youth volunteering projects in England. To date, V has pledged £35million from the private sector – making a total of £72million.The next closing date for applications is the 17th July 2009.

The BIG Family Idea

The Big Lottery Fund in partnership with National Family Week is inviting people of all ages in the UK to enter the BIG Family Idea competition, with an idea that could improve family life, either in their street or revolutionises life for families throughout the UK.

Awards For Bridging Cultures

Voluntary/Community Organisations that are working towards making a real and meaningful contribution towards the mutual understanding of cultural differences within communities are being invited to enter the Awards for Bridging Cultures (ABC).

Myplace Round 2
---
The Big Lottery Fund are now accepting expressions of interest for Myplace Round 2, a programme funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families, and delivered by the Big Lottery Fund. Funding is available in the form of capital grants of between £1million and £5 million to be paid over a maximum of two years.

Projects wishing to apply should be located in Brighton and Hove, Havant in Hampshire, Portsmouth, Southampton, Swale in Kent and Thanet in Kent. Applications must be from Cross Sector Partnerships that include at least one public body and at least one organisation from the Voluntary/Community or private sectors, with active support from the relevant local authority.

The deadline for the expression of interest form is 5pm 29th June. Expression of interest forms and further guidance can be downloaded from www.biglotteryfund.org.uk or by calling 08454 102030.

Help The Hospices Emergency Grant Programme

Help the Hospices is inviting applications through their emergency grants programme from hospices facing immediate financial crisis, meaning they may have to reduce frontline services for patients and their families and carers within the next six months. Hospices must be full members of Help the Hospices and be based in the UK. The deadline for expressions of interest is 1st July, 2009.

Church Urban Fund

The Church Urban Fund (CUF) has announced that it is seeking applications from churches and faith-based groups under its Mustard Seed Fund. The aim of the fund is to provide grants to enable churches and faith-based organisations to engage in social action through supporting them to initiate, develop and formulate ideas and opportunities in preparation for undertaking larger pieces of work. Eligible projects need to be directly tackling the effects of profound poverty and should be working in the 10% most deprived areas in England. The ‘Mustard Seed’ programme makes grants of up to £5,000. Applications can be made at any time.

Ready Steady Change is a one-day course that introduces participants to a selection of training methods and tools to enhance their skills and knowledge in increasing children and young people’s effective participation in decision-making. The course focuses on values, change and action. Ready Steady Change approaches participation from a children’s rights framework and is suitable for all individuals involved in participation work.

Community Sector Trading – Online Training

The Community Sector Trading project is an innovative training programme delivered by the Development Trusts Association. It utilises Web 2.0 technology to deliver online workshops in a ‘virtual classroom’. Development workers gain the practical skills required to support frontline organisations with their trading activities. They achieve this by working alongside staff from frontline organisations to develop real business plans.

Improvement and Efficiency South East has issued guidance on the region’s Local Improvement Advisor (LIA) support programme. LIAs are appointed individuals who can provide advice, coaching, training and mentoring to support local partnerships to deliver public services through the new performance framework and Local Area Agreements.

Futurebuilders England has announced that the next round of funding under the Social Enterprise Investment Fund (SEIF) is likely to open on the 11th June 2009. The Big Lottery Fund (BIG) together with the BBC have announced the launch of Village SOS, a new initiative that is searching for up to six villages with a great business idea and six enterprising individuals to act as Village Champions and help them achieve their ambitions. The Charity Property Help service has been launched by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). The service provides registered charities and Voluntary/Community Organisations with a free one-hour consultation from a RICS member. RAISE Are Recruiting A Senior Development Officer

The Senior Development Officer post (fixed term for three years) is funded by the BIG Lottery Fund. The post will involve building the capacity of small and medium sized Voluntary/Community Organisations (VCOs), particularly those representing excluded groups, to lobby, campaign, and influence policy, by sharing learning and good practice throughout the region.

To succeed applicants will need to demonstrate proven project management skills, experience of developing and delivering training sessions, workshops, seminars and events, experience of policy influencing and development on a wide range of issues and evaluating and evidencing social impact.

The role will involve developing and delivering environmental improvements on house estates, local play facilities and neighbourhood parks. The candidate will need a real passion for involving local people, promoting volunteering and training opportunities.

Experience of delivering and understanding the strategy behind succesful community projects is required. Candidates will need skills in project management, budgeting and performance monitoring.
