The VCS And Business Link Event - Free Advice 14th July

Thank you to all of those who have already completed this 5 minute survey, your data allows us to continue to monitor the changing economic position of the Sector. If you have previously completed this survey in January and or March please do so again to allow us to continue to measure these changes. An analysis of the survey responses will be fed directly to key influential decision makers in the South East, including the South East Economic Delivery Council.

Would you like to better understand and respond to a changing external environment? Do you want to find out more about the trends and forces that matter to your organisation, and to explain the implications of them to your staff? If so, you may be interested in a series of workshops that RAISE is holding in partnership with NCVO Third Sector Foresight.

There will be two breakfast workshops for leaders of infrastructure and umbrella organisations in the South East called 'Making sense of your environment'. These will take place in the morning on the 7th July and 4th August from 9:30am till 11.30am in Guildford.

A new clause has been proposed in the Equality Bill that would allow volunteers to take their organisations to employment tribunals over discrimination claims.

Councillor Mentoring Scheme

The Black Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) Women Councillors' Taskforce, Operation Black Vote (OBV) and the Government Equalities Office have come together to create a new mentoring scheme. The scheme will provide tailored support to BAME women considering standing for election and taking the first steps towards becoming a councillor.

Big Lottery Fund Unveils New Funding Strategy
---
The Big Lottery Fund is providing an extra £45million to help charities through the recession and has pledged to give at least 80 per cent of its funds to Voluntary/Community Organisations rather than the current 60 to 70 per cent.

Funding To Support Hate Crime Victims
---
The Home Office has announced the launch of the hate crime section of the Victims Fund for the financial year 2009/10. A total of £250,000 is available to provide core funding to organisations in England and Wales that deliver services and support to hate crime victims. Grants of up to £75,000 are available to Third Sector Organisations with a proven track record in the development and delivery of services for victims of hate crime. The deadline for applications is the 9th July 2009.

Funding To Develop Mental Health Anti Discrimination Projects

Mind the Mental Health charity has announced that it will be making grants of around £2,500 to individuals and groups with direct experience of mental distress the opportunity to get their own mental health anti-discrimination projects up and running. The deadline for applications is 5pm on the 15th August 2009.

Cultural organisations and individual artists are invited to submit applications to the European Cultural Foundation's Artistic Project Grants scheme. The foundation is seeking to support artistic projects which show vision in illuminating the issues of diversity Europe. The deadline for applications is the 31st July.

£15 Million Research, Education And Treatment Of Gambling

The Responsibility in Gambling Trust (RIGT) a charity commissioned by the Government in 2002 are committed to raising over £5m every year from now until 2012/13, and continue to raise funds from the gambling industry. The Government further announced that if the voluntary arrangement does not work then a statutory levy will be imposed. The Responsible Gambling Fund has been set up to distribute this money.

One of the ideas in the government White Paper ‘raising expectations and increasing support: reforming welfare for the future’ is the establishment of a ‘Right to Bid’, to capture and explore innovative ideas from external organisations which can provide measurable improvements in the way services are delivered. Any proposal that falls within Department of Work and Pensions business which is genuinely innovative and does not replicate existing or planned programmes will be considered.

The Guardian Charity Awards 2009, sponsored by Media and the National Council of voluntary Organisations, are open to UK social welfare charities that can demonstrate excellence and achievement in what they do. Each winner will receive £1,000 cash, a PC and a range of consultancy and media advice. The deadline for entries is the 31st July 2009 and winners will be announced in December.

Vale Volunteers is a small but effective voluntary infrastructure organisation with an integrated Council for Voluntary Service and Volunteer Centre, and incorporates a Gardening Services social enterprise.

The Chief Executive will be required to lead a small staff team bringing versatility, strategic vision, people skills and financial acumen required to run a successful and respected Third Sector organisation. Excellent analytical and communication skills are therefore essential, along with the proven capacity to influence and network at both local and national levels. Aiming High For Disabled Children – Parent Participation Lead

Salary £25,000 - £28,000 Funded until March 2011

Aiming High for Disabled Children (AHDC) is the Government’s transformation programme for disabled children’s services in England. The vision behind AHDC is for all families with disabled children and young people to have the support they need to live ordinary family lives, as a matter of course. One of the key areas of the programme is to significantly increase the range and number of short breaks available to families with disabled children and young people.

The candidate will work closely with the West Sussex Parents Forum to engage in strategic planning and service development and to ensure the forum has the backing of a large and varied group of parent carers. The role requires an individual with excellent communication and organisational skills, the ability to enhance joint working and play a key role in effectively developing parent participation across the county. An understanding of the issues around disability and inclusion is essential. The closing date for applications will be 3rd July with interviews being held on the 15th July.

RAISE will be working with the NCVO Third Sector Foresight team to better understand how the world is changing and how Voluntary/Community organisations in the South East region can use this knowledge to make better strategic decisions.
