Call For Comments – Provision For Gypsy Travellers and Travelling Show People --- The South East Partnership Board has submitted their review of the provision of new pitches that each local authority should provide for Gypsies, Travellers and Travelling Showpeople in the South East. Responses to the content of the document are requested before 1st September 2009.
RAISE submitted a response to the initial public consultation in November 2008 which culminated in the preparation of the review now being consulted on. RAISE is now calling for comments to incorporate into the current consultation request which shall in turn be considered as part of an Examination in Public early in 2010.

Development Workers Workshop – 20th July --- RAISE in partnership with NCVO Third Sector Foresight is holding a workshop for development workers or information officers - those who support other organisations to understand and respond to a changing environment - called 'Understanding the external environment: supporting the frontline'. The workshop will improve development workers preparation in responding to the changing times. The workshop will also explore the latest and future trends impacting on Voluntary/Community Organisations.

£70 Million Communitybuilders Programme --- The Adventure Capital Fund (ACF), in partnership with Futurebuilders and the Community Alliance has announced the launch of the new £70 Million Communitybuilders programme. The aim of the programme is to help build more cohesive, engaged and active communities through investment in community-led organisations looking to develop long term viability. Organisations that are interested in applying for funding should register their interest by phoning 0191 261 5200.

Comic Relief Grants Through Local Community Foundations --- Community Foundations across the UK are inviting applications for grants up to £10,000 from a fund of over £5 million that they are distributing on behalf of Comic Relief. The closing date for applications is the 31st March.

BIG Funding For Recession Hit Communities --- The Big Lottery Fund (BIG) has announced that an additional £43 million is to be invested across the UK to tackle the longer-term effects of the recession on the UK’s communities.

VAT Concerns For Charities --- Charities buying property could be hit with a sizeable VAT charge from next year, after HM Revenue & Customs said it was changing the way it calculates charitable use.

2010 IMPACT Awards --- The 2010 IMPACT Awards provide core funding for small health charities in the UK. Up to 20 awards are made each year - an overall winner receives £35,000 with nine winners receiving £25,000, highly commended and runners' up receive £5,000 and £3,000. IMPACT Awards now also invest in training for the winning and highly commended organisations and this is valued at an additional £3,500 for each organisation.

New Hardship Fund --- The Community Development Foundation (CDF) are working with the Office of the Third Sector to deliver the new Hardship Fund. This Fund will provide grant support to Third Sector organisations in England delivering front-line services to the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in society that have been affected by the recession.

Capacitybuilders Awards 500th Bursary --- Capacitybuilders has announced the award of its 500th bursary in less than a month under the Government's Real Help for Communities Modernisation Fund.
The bursaries, worth £1,000 each, are aimed at frontline third sector groups wanting to explore how collaboration or merger can help them respond to the challenges of the recession. The fund opened on 1 June and organisations have until 17 July to apply. In the Autumn, successful bursary holders are able to apply for a further £10,000 grant to further develop merger and partnership plans.

Compact Voice Conference --- Registration is now open for Compact Voice's 2nd Annual Local Compacts Conference being held on 2nd October 2009 in Birmingham. The theme of the conference will be Practical Action for a thriving Compact, Sector and Community. Speakers will include Nick Hurd MP (Shadow minister for Charities, Social Enterprise and Volunteering) Simon Blake (Chair of Compact Voice and Chief Executive of Brook Advisory Service) and Sir Bert Massie (Compact Commissioner). Meet The Funder 21st July --- The Third Sector Partnership Team will be holding a “Meet the Funder” event in London, for organisations eligible to apply to the fund. This will give organisations the opportunity to meet with Department of Health policy experts who will presentati on the fund application process/strands and provide the opportunity to discuss the cross-cutting themes.

Reaching For Gold --- Reaching for Gold is a new competition to encourage innovation and creativity in young people – essential skills for the industries that will lead us out of recession, 14-19 year olds across the South East are invited to put forward ideas that can make a practical difference to society. The themes for the competition are Youth, Community and Disability. The competition will culminate with the young people pitching their projects to a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style panel at Windsor Castle on 15th December 2009, followed by an awards ceremony. There will be an empowerment package prize including a laptop and camcorder whilst the organisation that puts forward the winning young people will receive a cheque for £5000 to help continue the winning idea further. The closing date for entries is the 21st August.

The candidate will support the delivery of Communities and Local Government (CLG) department’s and Office of Security and Counter Terrorism (OSCT) PREVENT programme objectives in the South East. The candidate will work directly with PREVENT partnerships in priority and non – priority areas across the South East , providing expert advise to local authorities, risk evaluating, self assessment of NI35 and mainstreaming the PREVENT agenda across the full spectrum of public services.
The candidate will need the following skills: project management, communication, delivering results, strategic thinking and analysis/use of evidence. The closing date for applications will be Friday 17th July.
