Call For Comments – Provision For Gypsies, Travellers And Travelling Showpeople --- RAISE submitted a response to the initial public consultation in November 2008 which culminated in the preparation of the review now being consulted on. RAISE is now calling for comments to incorporate into the current consultation request which shall in turn be considered as part of an Examination in Public early in 2010.

Prime Minister Launches New Youth Leadership Fund --- Gordon Brown has launched a major youth leadership programme for young people aged 13 to 19 aiming to increase the opportunities for them to lead change in their communities. The programme which is led by a partnership of charities headed by the Young Foundation has a total budget of £1 million to be spent by March 2011.

Peter Cruddas Foundation --- The Peter Cruddas Foundation aims to support charitable works that benefit disadvantaged and disengaged young people in the UK by ensuring that their funding reaches those most in need. Applications can be made any time.

Austin And Hope Pilkington Trust Grants Making Programme --- The Austin and Hope Pilkington Trust welcomes applications for projects within the following areas for the next three years. Justgiving Technical Problems --- Donor website Justgiving has admitted it is still suffering technical problems with its new site. Justgiving estimated that 20% of donations were not going through in the first few days after it launched a new version of its site on 20th June.

Surrey Supported Employment Conference - 29th September --- Employment support for people with health conditions or those who experience social disadvantage is a developing area of practice. Professionals and volunteers engaged in this activity are positioned in a variety of settings across the public, voluntary and private sectors. This conference will take place in Shepperton, Middlesex.
Despite a common role and job purpose for employment support workers, there is no standard training, or career progression. How can we promote quality service delivery and good practice.

Government Reveals Strategy To Support Ageing Population --- The government has unveiled a strategy to support the UK’s ageing population. It plans to bring forward a review of the default retirement age of 65 and will host a summit in the autumn exploring the changing role of grandparents.

New SEEDA Chair Appointed --- Business Secretary Lord Mandelson has today announced the appointment of Rob Douglas CBE as the new Chair of the South East England Regional Development Agency (SEEDA). Outgoing SEEDA Chair Jim Braithwaite stated ‘I am absolutely delighted to be handing over my Chairmanship to Rob, who will bring a wealth of private sector corporate and international experience to SEEDA. He is exceptionally well placed to lead the agency successfully through a major transformation and achieve our vision of being the best economic development agency a top global region could have.‘

Codes Could Boost Fundraising --- Fundraisers could bring in additional revenue by using symbols similar to barcodes on publicity material, according to a fundraising consultant.
The symbols, called QR codes are free to download online. They are often used on billboard posters and in advertising literature by businesses in Japan and Europe, but have yet to take off in the UK.

£27,661 – 37 hours per week Winchester Area Community Action is looking for an individual with experience in diversity and outreach work. The role will involve undertaking a new project supporting Voluntary/ Community Sector bodies across Hampshire. The individual will need knowledge, of good practice in governance, legislation and funding in order to support groups, combined with a commitment to partnership working and equality and diversity. The deadline for responses is Monday 27th August with interviews being held on 3rd and 5th August.

RAISE is working with the NCVO Third Sector Foresight team to better understand how the world is changing and how Voluntary/Community organisations in the South East region can use this knowledge to make better strategic decisions.
RAISE will be holding training for development workers or information officers. The course will focus on 'understanding the external environment supporting the frontline' and will span a full day on the 20th July in Guildford.
