Community engagement through music

Saturday 12 September 2009

at the
UNIVERSITY OF CHICHESTER

St Michael’s House, Bognor Regis Campus
Gathering: 10am-4pm Performances: 4pm-6pm

A day for musicians, teachers, community workers, health care workers, counsellors, therapists, students and anybody else who would like to explore the potential for using living music more widely in their working and playing lives. Keynotes, breakout groups, workshops, networking, performances and more networking!

Speakers include: Dr. Rod Paton, University of Chichester; Kathryn Deane, Sound Sense and Hugh Callacher of Generation Journey. Workshop leaders include Fiona Moore, Get Vocal, Delicious Soundbites and Philip Milburn, Lifemusic.

· How can music be used more widely as a community resource?
· What are the community benefits of participatory music?
· What is community music, who is it for and why do it?
· How does community music fit into mainstream and higher education?
· How can you become involved?

During the day we will be launching 'Artbeat - a new South Coast hub for community music: a network and training centre for community musicians based on the Bognor Regis Campus of the University. This coincides with the South East Coastal Communities Lifemusic project and the start of the new BA in Music with Community Music at the University.

If you would like to be part of this exciting and socially engaging development, if you want to meet others with similar interests and directions, if you want to add your voice to the discussion and influence the direction and not least, if you want to broaden your musical horizons and discover how music can add new dimensions to your life and work and even how to make money from it then book now!

The cost is £15.00 (lunch & refreshments inc) and for more details and a booking form, contact Dianne Sherlock, SECC Development Manager, University of Chichester, The Dome, Upper Bognor Road,
Bognor Regis, West Sussex PO21 1HR, e-mail d.sherlock@chi.ac.uk
